Made for mission mobility and security
Tamper-resistant aluminum shell: The outer housing shields internal components from damage and includes locking features that flag tampering. Rated IP67, it’s waterproof and dustproof.
USB-C port with power passthrough: A single sealed connection supports fast data transfer and USB power delivery, reducing cable clutter and enabling quick, secure setup.
Encrypted Linux system accessory: An optional module adds wireless capability with an embedded Linux system for real-time encryption, secure data handling, and built-in diagnostics.
Results that make a difference
Secure from the inside out: We made sure encryption was built into both the firmware and hardware, protecting biometric data even if the device is captured or compromised.
Faster deployment in the field: We designed the device to connect with a single USB-C port and mount directly to existing tactical gear, reducing setup time and gear load.
Reliable in high-stakes environments: We validated the device to MIL-STD-810 drop standards, ensuring it performs under shock, vibration, and harsh handling.
Project Overview
A rugged biometric terminal
Javelin™ began as a biometric device developed by Xator to collect iris and fingerprint data in the field. We joined the program early, supporting the embedded system and firmware design.
When Parsons acquired Xator, they inherited the Javelin platform and chose to keep us involved. We carried the work forward, redesigning the electronics, adding power passthrough, and creating a tamper-resistant housing ready for field production.
Today we manage full production for Parsons, applying deep system knowledge to deliver a compact tool trusted by military, law enforcement, and humanitarian teams.
The Challenge
Secure identity captured in a tight, tactical footprint
Operators carry the Javelin device into unpredictable, high-risk situations like border checkpoints, forward operating bases, and humanitarian zones with limited infrastructure. The device has to scan irises and fingerprints, encrypt data in real time, and transmit it through a single USB-C connection. All of those features have to fit inside a compact housing that could mount to standard Juggernaut gear without overheating or breaking on impact.
The original prototype had promise but lacked the system-level refinement needed to survive these environments. With the program shifting from Xator to Parsons, we also had to preserve knowledge and momentum while reworking the device for full production.
Our Approach
Field-focused design with no loss in translation
We worked side by side with 29Tech, our integrated manufacturing partner, to ensure every design decision could be built, tested, and repeated without friction. Our team owned the embedded system, firmware, and housing design. 29Tech provided fast input on materials, durability, and production tooling. Together we shaped an ARM-based Linux platform with secure logging, re-engineered the housing for tamper resistance, and validated the final build for tactical deployment.
The result was a compact biometric system that could be manufactured without guesswork and trusted without hesitation.
